“Sour Cream Raisin Coffee Cake” To Celebrate My Dad's Birthday!

Welcome to “Wordless Tuesday!” Where I have a fabulous and delicious recipe waiting for you to try …..

Last Sunday we celebrated my dad’s 88th birthday. Even though his real birthday was February 9th, all of us couldn’t get together for dinner because of everyone’s schedule and the snowy, cold weather. But everyone braved the cold and made sure that we made time for this family gathering. My dad loves my “Sour Cream Raisin Coffee Cake,” so I surprised him and made this for his birthday.

My dad & mom summer of "2014"
This cake is simple, only takes about 30 minutes, and is so moist plus has a marvelous flavor. So today for this Wordless Tuesday I am sharing this cake recipe with everyone. If you make this delicious tasty cake, I guarantee that you will want to make this all the time. It goes very nicely with coffee, tea, or hot chocolate. Enjoy!

                                          “Sour Cream Raisin Coffee Cake”
Unbaked
Ingredients:
3 Large Eggs
1 1/2 cups of sugar
1/2 cup of Vegetable oil
3 cups of all purpose sifted flour
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1 teaspoon of baking soda
1 teaspoon of cream of tarter
1 cup of dairy sour cream
1/2 cup of raisins
1/4 cup of sugar for top of cake before baking

Directions:   Oven Temp: 350°F
In a bowl beat the eggs until thick and lemon colored. Gradually add sugar beating until light and fluffy. Gradually beat in the oil. Add the sifted dry ingredients alternately with the sour cream. Add the raisins. Pour into greased and floured pan (9 x 12 x 2) pan. Sprinkle the last 1/4 cup of sugar over top of batter in pan. Bake: for 30 minutes or so depending on if cake tester comes out clean.

Serves: 12 or more depending on how you cut it. Cutting it on a diagonal makes it look like a diamond shape. I didn't have a chance to cut it in a diagonal shape, my family just started to cut it in pieces, as they love this cake!

Till Next Time………

  1. Hi Dottie!
I know the weather has been so darn cold down there. How wonderful that everyone could get together for you Dad's birthday. It's been pretty cold here too.

Your Sour Cream Raisin Cake would go wonderfully with the cup of tea I'm having right now. Would you mind passing it through the screen please, lol...Oh wait, there probably isn't one piece left!

Thank you so much for sharing, Dottie...Stay warm:)

    1. Hi Louise,
Thanks for stopping by and your comment....It is still freezing and the snow is pilled all over the place. but yes everyone came, even my niece that is in ESU (East Stroudsburg University) from Pa. She surprised everyone. The only one that was missing is my son. But he lives near Buffalo and due to his working schedule he could't come down. If there was any left I would have tried to squeeze a piece through the screen for you. But yes, you are right it all went. My dad saved a small piece of cake for another time. That sounds good to me...I could use a cup of tea and a slice as well. I guess I have to make it again. So glad that you enjoyed this recipe. Thanks again...I will try to stay warm..you and Marion as well. Have a blessed week...

    1. Dear Nee,
Thank you for your comment and your wishes for my dad. I will tell him, you sent your Happy Birthday wishes. Yes, you would not think that my dad is 88 and my mom will be 86 in March. This photo was taken in August 2014. I agree dear friend, that is how we keep young, also by going out all the time, they just went last week to a karaoke night. God Bless them...They say that I look like my dad's side of the family and my late brother Chris was a combo between them both. But we all see something different...Yes, very happy times dear Nee. So happy that you enjoyed this Sour Cream Raisin Cake. Thanks for pinning. Wow, you finally got snow...I would think that your children would be thrilled. Yes, I laughed too when i wrote this, that they never gave me the chance to make it look pretty on a plate. They devoured it like a shark. But you know what Nee, that is what it is all about, family and food, with the love that we have for it all. Thanks again for your words and have a blessed week ahead. Keep warm and safe...

  3. Dear Dottie, What a wonderful celebration to enjoy and be blessed with.
My mom always enjoyed a good sour-cream cake too. It has been terrible weather to get anyone to go out; so I am glad that your family was able to bring this celebration together.
I wish your Dad a wonderful and blessed year ahead.

Enjoy and stay warm only a few more days of this weather to go...I hope!
    Blessings my friend. xoxo Catherine

    1. Dear Catherine,
Thank you so much for your lovely words about my dad. It was a wonderful day as we all were together. Family, is what is it all about...then comes the food and love is spread all around. This cake was and still is a big part of my families celebrations. I usually put more raisins in but some of the kids do not like raisins. Can't even think of that, I love raisins. So happy that you enjoyed this post and recipe. You also stay warm...it shouldn't be much longer as you said, but March can be a crazy month. Have a blessed week with your family.

  4. What a lovely birthday for your dad! I love the photo of your mum and dad together and that cake looks wonderful and delicious. It is a good recipe indeed.
I am too looking forward to spring now. Here in the UK there are a few primroses out but not many, it is still winter though.
Not long to wait now, I cannot wait to get a bit of sun and warmth and to stock up on vitamin D which by now is getting quite low! (the Uk does not get much sun during winter months).
    Ciao ciao!

    1. Dear Alida,
Thank you for your comment and for your visit. Yes this was a good photo of them, it was taken last summer in the back of their home. The Sour Cream Coffee Cake is always a big hit. I hadn't made it in a long time, so they devoured the cake before I could place it on a pretty plate .I went to get the plate and everyone started to cut it up and eat it. Yes, I love the winter and the snow, but even I am getting tired of this cold ...I would like a nice Spring. What happens sometimes is that it goes from cold one day to extremely hot the next day. So sometimes we don't even get a spring it goes right into the summer. The sun would be nice to warm things up a bit and melt some of the snow, we still have piles of it...It will be here before we know it...I hope that you have all the sunshine you need dear friend. Have a great night...Ciao!
      Dottie :)

    1. Hi John,
Thank you for your kind words about my dad's birthday. It was a great day, you know at 88 every birthday is a big deal. We also had other desserts, including a Carvel ice cream cake, and brownies, but the coffee cake was a big hit! Thank you for your stopping over and your comment. Have a great day!
